my ENTIRE life I dreamed about watching a basketball game with my feet on the hardwood floor. This year, that dream became an actual moment. I felt my thoughts turn into things and the feeling was even better than I had imagined. Yet, with so much stunting and selfies on social media I was extremely hesitant to post a picture of the experience online. I didn’t want to be that “wish you were here guy” that puts things in people’s face, but then again this was something I’ve had on my bucket list since I picked up a basketball in the 4th grade!
I thought twice about pressing send on Instagram until my spirit spoke as quick as Stephen Curry’s jump shot, “you have to show people they can do this too. You have to let those who actually know you as my homie Chris, those same people who are also going up against all odds know that quality results happen to those who hustle while they wait.” I shared that photo to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Path (nobody saw it though).
I’m nervous all the time whether or not I’m doing a good job career wise, growing personally, or helping others see beyond the struggle…but I still choose to unknowingly move forward each day. As I continue to travel down this rabbit hole of euphoria and terror I’ve learned that God gives each of us GLIMPSES: small glimpses of how we have envisioned our lives to be. Intimate glimpses of out of our imagination that momentarily enter our consciousness. These glimpsesare shots of espresso for my inspiration to push me harder each day to become a witness to the true limitless opportunity everyone possesses.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from these brief, timeless experiences in my life is that behind every 28 “liked” filtered photo is 64 pictures we’ve never published, and 18 conversations of tough times unlikely to be shared on a status update. We all have seasons in the wilderness, and our celebrations in the limelight, but we must honor both seasons equally. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about looking presidential, or constantly being in the grind, but using what you have to empower those closest to you to also catch that glimpse.
